Trip Report: Mt. Washington, NH & Tuckerman Ravine An excellent weather window for the Presidential Range meant it was time to not only check Mt. Washington off my summit list, but most importantly recon some ski terrain in and around Tuckerman Ravine. Matt and I got an early start from Vermont and arrived at Hermit Lake by 9am where we would camp for the evening. Walking out the next morning validated our decision to go on a Friday when the crowds would be lighter […] Conditions Report Guest Author | July 1, 2014 1 Comment

Skiing Pow & Surfing in One Day in Jackson Hole on June 20th w/ Griffin Post I hastily rifled through bins of winter gear in the shed in my backyard. I had neatly packed away all of this stuff for the season just last weekend. Flurries were flying outside and the word was that significant snowfall had already […] Conditions Report Guest Author | June 23, 2014 1 Comment
Antarctica 2014 โ The Time is Now | by Andrew McLean I knowโฆ it just seems like the snow has just melted and now next season is already sneaking up. Or in the case of Antarctica, the 2014 ski season is finally catching up to the northern hemisphere. November in Antarctica is like April in Utah โ the days are getting longer, the temperatures are warming up, the snowpack is full, generally stable and very skiable. But no matter how long you wait in the […] Guest Author | June 12, 2014 1 Comment
Mt. Whitney, CA Mountaineering Conditions Report | by Sierra Mountain Guides We have been out and about for the past few weeks. Not much new to report for alpine ice climbers. Couloirs are still quite snowy, and the firnification process has been slow due to continued snowstorms through May. Some couloirs do have patches of ice exposed due to the dry winter (see last Alpine Conditions Report). This Alpine Conditions will focus on the Mount Whitney zone and you can extrapolate it out to other areas Iโm sure. […] Conditions Report Guest Author | June 11, 2014 0 Comments
VIDEO: Skiing NAKED 1,000-Feet Down Chute 75 @ Squaw Valley on June 5th After spending a day hiking up Squaw Valleys infamous Shirley Canyon, we had reached High Camp and decided to continue the hike down the Mountain Run (more so due to the Cable Car being closed). Upon wandering down, a quick glimpse of what could be a ski-able Chute 75 quickly turned into an anxious emotion turned-up inside of me, ready to shred KT. The thought that you could ski top to bottom in Chute 75 [over 1,000-vertical feet] was crazy following the season […] Guest Author | June 9, 2014 2 Comments
Trip Report: Skiing Big Lines in Grand Teton National Park, WY Typically, we wake up around 3 am or earlier, and drink mattรฉ for the hour and a half drive through Jackson and into the park. Up high in the mountains this spring has been rather cold, with frequent snowstorms, which has created deep stable pow for a good amount of days. On some days, it seemed almost everything was in perfect pow ski conditions.Putting in the iPod, and clicking in the skis, we begin our approach in the dark, with the light of our headlamps illuminating the path through through the flats underneath the dark towering mountains. Moving fast and feeling […] Trip Report Guest Author | June 3, 2014 1 Comment
Mt. Lassen Report: Great Corn and Deep Pond Skimming After reasoning with Metres that, “skiing is always better than NOT skiing….” the night before, we found ourselves awake at 4 am tip-toeing ninja like around our family at our camp in Lassen NP. After heating up some water for soup and tea to get my bowels moving we hopped in my car and drove up to the summit parking lot. We suited up and soon we were skinning. After 30 min of skinning we were on the ridge, hiking up the […] Conditions Report Guest Author | May 29, 2014 1 Comment
