Google just revealed its annual Year in Search, ranking the most searched trends in 2024. There are over 8.5 billion searches per day on Google. It keeps track of what people are looking for on the internet, including the top trending travel destinations of 2024. Banff, Alberta, Canada, was on the list two times for the categories of Top Trending Destinations and Honeymoon Destinations and is the only ski destination in North America to appear in the trends.
The town of Banff is nestled high in the Canadian Rockies within Banff National Park. Banff has attracted visitors from around the world for decades. Towering mountains surround it, and the town is alive with adventure and opportunities to experience wonder. The vibrant streets of downtown are lined with top-class restaurants, bars, shops, and several art galleries and museums. The town of Banff is small, easy to get around by walking or cycling, and has a convenient public transit system. There are plenty of things to do at Banff, ranging from outdoor activities to great food, culture, and incredible views.
Banff is home to three world-class resorts, and the snowboarding and skiing in Banff National Park are second to none. The unique combination of friendly locals, a long ski season, and the scenic backdrops of the Canadian Rockies make this place a beloved destination for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. These three Canadian ski resorts, Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Resort, and Banff Sunshine Village, are world-famous and located in Banff. Combined, they boast 7,748 acres of skiable terrain, two gondolas, 27 chairlifts, and 30 feet of feather-light, dry Canadian Rockies powder annually, all accessible with one SkiBig3 Lift Ticket.
Two hours west of Calgary in Banff, Sunshine Village Ski Area is known for attracting skiers and snowboarders worldwide. This is due to the plentiful amounts of natural snow that falls throughout the season, which starts in early November and usually lasts through late May. Sunshine Village receives about 244 inches of snowfall a season, providing great coverage for the 3,300 acres of skiable terrain. Banff Sunshine Village is comparable in acreage and vertical to Mammoth Mountain, California, and is more affordable. Banff charges just $155 for an adult day pass ticket during the midweek, while Mammoth Mountain will cost $219.
With three top-notch ski resorts at your fingertips, it is hard to compete with Banff as a ski destination spot, and Google’s annual Year in Search proves that people are learning that. Banff is a great option for skiers and snowboarders who like to travel to find the best powder and terrain. Many skiers from the United States travel to Europe or even Japan to chase great powder and conditions. With Banff being geographically much closer to those locations, it is a much faster and cheaper choice to go north and visit Canada for your next trip.
