Blackbird Mountain Guides, a provider of innovative avalanche courses and expertly guided mountain adventures, are excited to announce a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Avalanche Course Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to acknowledge structural racism that has contributed to a lack of representation in the ski industry and make backcountry skiing more accessible and representative of our population.

Zeb Blais, the founder of Blackbird Mountain Guides, set up the scholarship program because:

“…the ski industry has a problem with inclusion and diversity. We need to start addressing that.”

– Zeb Blais

The chosen recipient may select an AIARE 1, Women’s AIARE 1, or AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course in the Truckee / Lake Tahoe area.

The application period ends on November 15. Applicants will be notified via email once the scholarship decision has been made on November 20.
