The first day of December brought bluebird sky days for the opening of two of Michigan’s largest ski resorts, Boyne Mountain and The Highlands.
The resorts started spinning their first chairs of the season on Friday at noon, and opened 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Early season lift tickets, season passes, and multi-day ticket packs can be purchased online.
Boyne Mountain opened with seven runs served by the Mountain Express lift, while The Highlands opened the Heather slope and Heather Express lift.
This week brought the regionโs first substantial snowfall of the year, and the colder temperatures necessary for snowmaking efforts, which have taken place around the clock.
After this weekend, both resorts will close the slopes to focus on additional snowmaking before opening up for skiing and riding again next Friday, December 8.ย
The 2023/24 season is a monumental year for both resorts in celebrating milestone anniversaries โ 75 years at Boyne Mountain and 60 years at The Highlands โ as well as the opening of new lifts, snowmaking investments, and attractions.ย
