If you find yourself in mid-Michigan and are looking for wintertime stoke, look no further than Mt. Holly. Located in Holly, MI, about a 50-minute drive from Detroit, Mt. Holly is where the north begins for skiers and snowboarders in Metro Detroit. Mt. Holly Resort offers skiing and snowboarding to riders of all abilities. Although it is on the smaller side as far as resorts go, there is a ton of fun packed into this place. From race programs and private lessons to kids throwing down in the park there is always something fun going on at Holly.

Mt. Holly has been my winter home for the last 25 years. I grew up ski racing with my dad who coached the race program there. I continued racing through high school, where my passion for the sport began. I would spend every spare minute I had skiing. Not much has changed nowadays, and I still find myself out there 5-6 days a week and I simply cannot get enough.

Admittedly, Mt. Holly is small, and sometimes we may have to ski man-made snow all season because of the inconsistent weather conditions on the east coast. Luckily we have an amazing and hard-working group of snowmakers and other employees that make the winters as much fun as they do.

We are not Kirkwood or Keystone — shoot we aren’t even the resort 15 minutes south. What Mt Holly may lack in size or snow, it more than makes up in heart. The sense of community and the friendships forged over the years is what makes this place special. Mt. Holly’s winter sports enthusiasts make do with what we get because we love the winter, we love the sport, and we love riding with each other and kicking back and enjoying the après festivities.  I would put the skiers and snowboarders at Mt. Holly at the top of the list of the most stoked riders in the country!

Resort Stats:

  • 350-feet of vertical drop
  • 21 trails
  • 3 terrain parks
  • dedicated beginner ski area
  • 7 lifts (including a 4 person high-speed with another coming in 24/25)
