In what has become an ongoing battle between two ski towns, Breckenridge, Colorado, this week reclaimed the unofficial world record for longest Shotski at its annual Ullr Fest.

This year, 503 skis were lashed together up and down Main Street, running 2,477 feet in length and bringing 1,401 people together to take a synchronized shot of Breckenridge Distillery’sย Broncos Blend and Candy Cane Vodka. The previous record was held by Park City, Utah, with 1,385 shot-takers. Ullr Fest heralded in Breckenridgeโ€™s rightful claim to the worldโ€™s longest Shotski again.

The shot ski kicked off the 61st annual Ullr Fest, Breckenridgeโ€™s annual celebration of all things snow. Winter worshippers donning Viking helmets take over downtown Breckenridge with a rowdy parade and ski-town shenanigans to pay homage to Ullrโ€“the Norse god of snowโ€“hoping he will bless the town with a powder-filled ski season. In celebration, Breckenridge Distillery released a limited edition (100 bottles) of the Ullr Reserve Blend Whiskey, available only at Breckenridge Distilleryโ€™s tasting room on Main Street.

The fight for the longest shot ski has been a friendly competition between Breckenridge and Park City for over a decade. Breckenridge set the first world record in 2010 with a 422-foot-long shot ski comprising over 400 skis. The records have been wandering back and forth between the cities ever since.

The towns broke their records almost annually until COVID restrictions halted the friendly competition, and in recent years, has seen:

2021: Breckenridge started the competition again by lining up 1,333 people in front of shot glasses mounted to skis.

October 2021: Park City broke Breckenridgeโ€™s record by serving 1,340 shots on 525 skis.

January 2022: Breckenridge set a record with 1,350 participants using 528 skis, achieving a shotski length of 2,800 feet.

October 2022: 1,363 shots were taken from 525 skis on Main Street in Park City

October 2023: Park City set a new record with 1,360 participants, solidifying its position as the holder of the longest shotski until Breckenridge reclaimed it later that year.

December 2023: Breckenridge reclaimed the record during Ullr Fest with 1,377 participants using 495 skis, creating a shotski 2,469 feet long.

October 2024: Park City broke Breckenridge’s record with 1,385 participants and approximately 550 skis.

Congratulations, Breckenridge, until Park City’s next attempt in 2025.
