Report from December 27, 2022
On the 5th day of our BC hut trip, we had good snow and tough visibility.
It was snowing lightly and relatively warm for this region.
We started off heading up the ridge into avalanche terrain.
Avalanche danger has been an issue on this trip so we took it slow.
Ski cuts and tests didn’t reveal any big concerns but we stuck to the trees and safer terrain just to be sure.
The snow was great…
We ripped through the baby trees and into the avalanche gully and had one of the longest powder runs of the trip!
We were stoked.
This long run poured us straight into the bigger pillow zone.
Perfect.
We hit the pillow zone for 2 laps and learned a bit more of where to go and where not to go…
On our 1st lap we ended up in a zone with mandatory airs that we didn’t exactly love being in.
Our 2nd lap was happy, mellow powder pillows.
It was very deep down there…
We skinned out of the pillow sink as the light was fading around 3:30pm with a plan to return the next day and hit another pillow zone we’d scoped out.
A face-melting sauna, burrito dinner, my first Tim-Tam Slam, and some Bananagrams put us in the perfect mood.
Thanks, BC!
