Lombok Surf & Culture Report: Glimpse Into Another World The left is what has surprised me this week. I usually scoff at it and turn my head. This week, it was too big for the right and it wasn’t working a couple of days, so I slinked over to the left. I was pretty surprised at what I found. It was a mandatory, very late drop. An air drop many times (which translated to some incredible wipeouts). But, if you made the drop, the wave would slow up for a second and give you the chance to make a big […] Surf Miles Clark | June 12, 2014 1 Comment
What’s It Like to Get Barreled for 45-Seconds? | It’s Like This: Getting barreled for 2 seconds is rad. Getting barreled for 5 seconds is unreal. Getting barreled for 10 seconds is almost unheard of. This guy, Benji Brand, gets barreled for 45-seconds in this clip from Namibia, Africa. The first clip in the shot is in super slow motion. The second clip, starting at 2:48 is in real time. Both are great to watch. We love […] Surf SwellBrains | June 12, 2014 1 Comment
Dropping Waterfalls on a Paddleboard? | Yep… It doesn’t really seem like this is a doable activity. We know that you simply cannot land a drop off a waterfall on a stand up paddleboard (SUP). Oh, what’s that? Oh, never mind. You totally can and this video below proves it: That said, there is likely a limit to how big you can go, just with every hucking sport. We’ve gotta give props to Dan Gavere for going for this waterfall of about 20 feet. Doesn’t seem to doable, but we’ll get back to you in 10 years. Guys will have bindings mounted on […] Surf SwellBrains | June 10, 2014 1 Comment
Lombok, Indonesia Surf & Culture Report: Images of a Magical Land Indonesia itself is magical place. The isle of Lombok is no exception. It’s changing fast however. If you want to see it mostly undisturbed by major development, it’s time to come now. The Emirates are building a large hotel near Kuta, Lombok and things are happening quick. They already built a new airport and they’ve begun paving all the roads. It’s getting busy here, but it’s not too bad yet. The hotel is a large project and it’ll be awhile before […] Surf Miles Clark | June 5, 2014 1 Comment

Lombok, Indonesia Surf Report: Head High and Glassy The best tide for the right at Mawi, Lombok is just before or just after low tide. I showed up a while before low tide today and the waves were messy, lumpy, thick and unimpressive. Then the tide dropped into the money zone and the waves started firing. The swell direction wasn’t perfect for the right, but it wasn’t bad. The left was working as well, but I didn’t try one. […] Surf Miles Clark | May 31, 2014 0 Comments
Friday Fun: Surfing with 10 Sharks on Memorial Day! It is truly every surfers biggest fear: Sharks in the water while you’re surfing. But in Florida, they just don’t care. Granted these sharks are smallerish, but I sure as hell wouldn’t share the line up with them… Water was very clear at NSB inlet today, we […] Surf SwellBrains | May 29, 2014 0 Comments
Friday Fun: Whale Hits Paddle Boarder at Ocean Beach, SF Last Week The Grey Whales were coming through San Francisco last week. You can see them when you’re surfing and it’s very cool. These two guys decided to grab some beers and go paddle boarding right up and in the Grey Whale’s crevasses. They had an amazing experience and nearly got served. We do not recommend getting this close to the whales. […] Surf SwellBrains | May 23, 2014 0 Comments
