An approaching winter storm has forced Caltrans District 9 to close Highway 108/Sonora Pass in Tuolumne County and Highway 4/Ebbetts Pass in Calaveras County from noon Thursday, May 20th.
There is no estimated time for reopening. However, highwayย 89/Monitor Pass will remain open unless the severity of the storm necessitates its closure.
โOnce the storm passes, our crews have to go up there to just make sure the roads are safe and cleared any debris. Once that is accomplished, the passes will reopen, and we anticipate that being well before Memorial Day Weekend.โ
– Caltrans District 10 spokesperson Bob Highfill
A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for the Sierra Nevada yesterday as snow showers are expected and could impact travel over higher elevation passes by Thursday evening. Up to 6″ of snow could be dumped above 6,000 feet.
