Craigieburn Valley Ski Area received 15 centimeters (6 inches) of snowfall in the last five days and has announced on social media that it will be opening this weekend, September 14 and 15. The top tow and maybe middle tow will be running, and the day lodge will be open to warm up in. However, the canteen will not be open. The lodge will also be open on Saturday night for overnight stays.
Craigieburn Valley Ski Area announced last week, on September 5, that the resort was closing for the season, but some late-season snowfall has changed the tides at this club ski area on the South Island. Club ski areas are still very common in New Zealand. While they are clubs, they are open to the public, but the ski area is not run for profit but rather by skiers and boarders for skiers and boarders. Craigieburn Valley Ski Area was established in 1954. Craigieburn Valley is located 90 minutes from Christchurch on the South Island.
According to OpenSnow, the forecast for Craigieburn calls for another 36 centimeters (14 inches) of snow in the next five days.
