Big things continue to be in the plans at Deer Valley. Earlier this year, the resort announced plans for a massive expansion that would more than double its size.

Now the resort is planning a groundbreaking public-private partnership that will completely reimagine the Snow Park base area to create a world-class base village. The partnership will be with Park City Municipal to enhance the skiing experience by providing numerous benefits, as well as contributing to the enduring charm of the region.

The vision will take the current 15 acres of surface parking lots at the Snow Park Lodge and transform them into a modern and accessible base area with a contemporary transit hub, expansive slope-side access, sophisticated accommodations, and new après ski experiences.

Highlights

Deer Valley will provide $15 million in funding to expand regional transportation infrastructure and support local affordable housing. A planned 15%-20% reduction in parking spaces will further reduce vehicle traffic during peak times. There will also be improved mountain access from the new portal and base area via U.S. Route 40, bypassing Park City. Additionally, several new chairlifts and a 10-passenger gondola will seamlessly connect the expanded terrain with the existing resort, ensuring a more balanced flow of traffic and reducing congestion.

Timeline

Over the past two years, there have already been nine Planning Commission meetings and ten City Council meetings. Community feedback has played a crucial role in the planning and that will continue with City Council Public Hearings on December 5 and December 14, 2023.

The meeting on December 14 could include a vote that would pave the way for the next phase of the Snow Park project to begin. Groundbreaking for the project would be in the spring of 2024, with the project estimated to be completed by the Winter of the 2029/30 season.

Deer Valley continues to set the standard for what a luxury ski area should look like. This project would certainly add to that reputation.
