After rain to the top two nights ago followed by a light dusting of snow last night, conditions at Squaw were some classic dust on crust today.ย Yesterday lifts were on Patrol Hold in the AM due to conditions that were simply too firm and fast, but the inch and a half of snow we received over night was just enough to soften things up a touch and make for some surprisingly fun skiing.ย While things may not have been bona fideย corn, places like Sun Bowl and Tower 16 certainly softened up nicely, making for some spring-like conditions.
Highlights
– Mainline Pocket
– Sun Bowl (most of the day)
– Tower 16 (By around 11:00)
Most of Headwall was again on Patrol Hold in the early AM due to firm conditions, save Sun Bowl which was smooth and ripping all day.ย Once patrol did open the rest of Headwall, the skiing was decent with the face holding a few smooth turns followed by more than a few crusty turns.ย KT also had a few closures due to firm snow (such as Enchanted Forest), but other parts, such as Ladies Downhill and surprising the should of McConkey’s (Eagles Nest) held some sweet turns.
Mainline Pocket was probably skiing the best out of anything, with the recent rain/snow mix leaving things nice and smooth.ย ย So long as you were able to dodge the ice islands in the run outs, it was all smiles up in the pocket (and no competition for first tracks first thing in the morning!).
It’s that type of skiing where the name of the game is follow the sun.ย With day time highs around 50, it doesn’t take long for the sun to make even the firmest of snow soften up.ย It looks like there’s another chance for weather at the end of the weekend.ย However, temperatures are looking like they may not be in our favor at the base…again.
