To keep the spread of COVID-19 at bay, Chamonix is enforcing a mandatory face mask ordinance within the French ski town’s city center.

The town hall of Chamonix wrote in a Facebook post:

“THE COMMON OF CHAMONIX-MONT-BLANC MAKES MANDATORY WATCH IN THE CITY CENTER
Chamonix-Mont-Blanc has had the pleasure for a few weeks, to see its visitors come back. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this return to a relative normality of social and economic life is sustainable, in particular by ensuring respect for barrier gestures and ensuring the best sanitary guarantees for our entire population, whether permanent or tourist. It is in this spirit that an order to make it mandatory to wear a mask in the city centre (pedestrian or high attendance areas) will be enforceable this Monday, August 3.
Important means of prevention and information will be put in place to explain this measure (presence of agents, panels…).
Of course, more than 99,9 % of the territory of our commune remains accessible without a mask, the large spaces of our site allowing everyone to fully enjoy our mountains.
Take care, wear a mask!”
