According to the Colorado Highway Patrol, a Florida driver sent his car careening off Highway 40 on Berthoud Pass. At 6:08pm on Saturday, a 78-year-old man was driving a black 2000 Ford Explorer on the pass, when he lost control and went off the side of the road near milepost 238.
The vehicle tumbled nearly 400-feet down the mountainside before it came to a stop in some rocks and trees. The incident wasnโt reported by any witnesses as the vehicle wasnโt visible from the road. Thankfully, the driver was able to place a cell phone call and reach authorities. Itโs always important to be safe while driving, especially in Colorado, as there has been 459 fatalities on Colorado Highways in 2017.
