Friday Fun: Cody Townsend Wave Skiing in Hawaii

Cody Townsend has now acquired big-time pro skier status.  He’s worked hard for it and put in the hours.  What most people don’t know, is that Cody is from Santa Cruz, California (aka Surf City USA) and grew up surfing.

I had a conversation with Cody this fall and was very impressed to hear that he had spent a chunk of the summer surfing Scar Reef in Sumbawa, Indonesia.  Scar is a big nasty wave with a viciously sharp coral reef that chills under about 4 feet of water.  What I’m getting to here is: the guy can surf, too.  This isn’t a spot your stoked un unless you know you’re gonna make that bottom turn every time.

Wave skiing is a very cool thing that most all us will never try.  We interviewed Chuck Patterson on that subject a few weeks ago:  Chuck Patterson wave ski interview:  “will wave skiing catch on?

Regardless, it’s damn fun to watch and I know there are more than just a few of us who’d love to try it.
