Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (‘Friends of CAIC’), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting avalanche forecasting and education, is thrilled to announce a new collaboration with Sendy Sauce, a mountain-based hot sauce business, to create a new “Spicy Moderate” labeled hot sauce to raise awareness about Colorado’s notoriously tricky snowpack.
Designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of winter outdoor recreationalists, “Spicy Moderate” aims to ignite conversations about avalanche awareness and preparedness while adding a flavorful kick to backcountry user’s palettes. A QR code provides a link to education resources, and a portion of the proceeds from each bottle of “Spicy Moderate” sold will directly support Friends of CAIC’s mission of supporting avalanche forecasting and education throughout Colorado.

Why hot sauce?

“We saw an overlap in the language used in hot sauce descriptions and avalanche forecasting danger levels. Sendy Sauce immediately understood the value in using an unexpected product collaboration to expand the reach of our messaging.”
— Aaron Carlson, Executive Director Friends of CAIC
Sendy Sauce’s Clay Vansteel adds “Layering some Friends of CAIC “Spicy Moderate” sauce on your morning eggs really turns them into a ‘continental” breakfast,”  referring to Colorado’s blend of cold temperatures, clear skies, and low density snowfall – a recipe for an unpredictable snowpack.
“Spicy Moderate” is available online and in limited Colorado restaurants, making it the perfect gift for those who appreciate both adventure and flavor. Bottles feature a QR code and URL pointing to support.friendsofcaic.org/sauce, which contains safety information and a link to purchase bottles.
