Bluebird Backcountry, CO, announced in July this year that the resort was closing down after just three years of operation. The backcountry-only resort was one of a kind, with no lifts operating but accommodation and on-mountain restaurants and other infrastructure in place.

The owner is now liquidating hundreds of backcountry and avalanche equipment items online at public auction. The auctioneer Roller is handling the liquidation. Bidding starts at just $5 for all items, regardless of retail value. There is no minimum or reserve price on the auction items so winning bidders will most likely be scoring quality backcountry ski items on the cheap.

Liquidated items include skis, beacons, packs, boots, snow domes, and everything in between. All gear auctioned is in good and near new condition and brands include Dynafit, Ortovox, K2, Black Diamond and Pomoca. Aside from ski and snowboarding related gear, there is also stoves, cooktops, gas bottles, trestle tables and folding chairs for sale.

If you are looking for a bargain for yourself or need equipment to start your own business or upgrade your existing resort’s stock, there is a wide range being sold which could attract many buyers.

The only downside is that local pick-up is required at the auction house just north of Denver. Bidding is open now and auction lots will start closing at 9:00am MDT on September 6, 2023,  so get in now. There will also be an on-site inspection possible on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
