Reactivation of โBig Redโ Kicks Off Summer Activities In Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR) in Wyoming is pleased to announce that its world-famous Aerial Tram will be open to the public beginning May 18, marking the official kickoff for summer operations at the resort.
Built in 2008 and gliding skyward from the base in Teton Village to the top of Rendezvous Mountain at 10,450 feet in just 12 minutes, the Aerial Tramโaffectionately nicknamed โBig Redโโ is one of the most popular attractions in Jackson Hole. Guests have been known to spot wildlife along the tram ride, and upon reaching the summit, theyโre offered stunning views of the Tetons, Jackson Hole Valley, and surrounding mountain ranges. The “Top of the World” tram also provides access to a wide network of hiking trails and opportunities to explore the Bridger-Teton National Forest or Grand Teton National Park.
New for this year, the Aerial Tram provides access to the Grand Teton Skywalk. Located at the top of Rendezvous Mountain, this spectacular viewing platform offers the best easily accessible views in the Tetons. The Aerial Tram will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 18 through Oct. 6. For day ticket pricing and more information, click here.
โThe opening of the Aerial Tram is traditionally one of our favorite days of the year at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort because it marks the official beginning of summer. The tram is the highest point that many people will access in the Tetons, and there are wonderful hiking opportunities, 360-degree views, and world-famous waffles in Corbetโs Cabin. There is also still snow at the top and skiing is available in the backcountry. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to experience the unique adventures our Aerial Tram offers.โ
– Tim Mason, JHMR vice president of operations
The opening of the Aerial Tram is the first in a series of summer activities for visitors to enjoy at the Resort. Many of JHMRโs other warm-weather highlights – including the acclaimed Via Ferrata, Jackson Hole Bike Park, aerial adventure course, bungee trampoline, climbing wall, and Bridger Gondola – are planning to open on June 15, conditions permitting. JHMR is also proud to unveil a new jump trail in the Jackson Hole Bike Park that promises big airtime for thrill-seeking mountain bikers.
Because early season conditions still exist, guests visiting the resort in May and early June should wear appropriate clothing to stay warm and dry. Guests are allowed to ski in the backcountry accessible through the resortโs backcountry gates located near the top of the Aerial Tram, but as part of JHMRโs special use permit with Bridger-Teton National Forest, no skiing is permitted within the ski area boundary after the winter operating season. No uphill skiing is allowed, and no ski patrol representatives are on duty.
