Another strong snow season is winding down across Lake Tahoe, and resorts are locking in their projected closing dates. While some ski areas will push well into late April—or even Memorial Day—others are wrapping things up early for weather or construction-related reasons.
Regardless of snowfall, Tahoe Donner will be the first to close on April 6. The early shutdown is due to the ongoing construction of a new ski lodge that must be completed in time for next season.
Homewood, meanwhile, never opened at all this year. The resort remained closed for the entire 2024–25 season due to financial struggles and a pending renovation project.
Below is a quick look at when all major Lake Tahoe ski resorts have their closing dates (weather permitting):
-
Tahoe Donner Downhill: April 6
-
Boreal: April 13
- Kirkwood: April 13
-
Northstar California: April 13
-
Soda Springs: April 13
-
Heavenly: April 20
-
Diamond Peak: April 20
-
Sierra-at-Tahoe: April 20
-
Mt. Rose: April 27
-
Sugar Bowl: April 27
-
Palisades Tahoe: May 25
-
Homewood: Closed all season (reopening expected December 2025)
As always, closing dates depend on snow and weather. Late-season storms or unexpected heat waves could shift resort plans slightly, but most operators are sticking close to their announced timelines. For skiers hoping to squeeze in a few more turns, Palisades Tahoe is your best bet—the resort plans to stay open through Memorial Day weekend, offering one of the longest-running seasons in North America. Until then, there’s still time to chase spring corn, soak up the sun, and make the most of what’s left of winter.
