Loretto Ski Resort, operated from 1965 to 1999, was a charming ski hill located between Highway 50 and Airport Road, north of Highway 9 in Ontario. The resort featured three ski runs, served by one T-bar lift and one rope tow when it opened. With a vertical drop of 185 feet (56 meters), Loretto offered a modest yet enjoyable experience typical of smaller ski hills in southern Ontario. The resort became a beloved local destination, established by Frank Stripinis and his wife Greshina as a weekend hobby, hosting training sessions and competitive races with neighboring clubs like Hockley and Valley Schuss.

However, after 34 years of operation, the resort faced significant challenges, leading to its closure. Poor weather conditions, financial difficulties due to the high cost of artificial snow production, and the increasing operational demands became too much to sustain. Climate change also likely played a role, as shorter seasons and less natural snow made it harder for small resorts to remain viable. Even after its closure, the chalet remained active as a Ski and Board Shop run by Frank’s son Linas, reflecting the family’s enduring connection to the skiing community despite the challenges that led to the hill’s retirement.
