A Colorado man fought off a bear with his bare fists while his wife hit it with a baseball bat on Monday evening, forcing the animal and her cub out of their home.
After hearing strange noises, the 71-year-old man went to investigate and found the bear in his kitchen eating his bread.
โIt was growling, I was growling,โ Jon Johnson said in an interview. โBetween the two of us, we were having a lot of attitude.โ

When the bear attacked, Johnson said it was like a boxing match, and suffered cuts to his face, chest and both arms. His wife, George Field, rushed to the kitchen and hit the animal with a bat multiple times.
โAll I remember seeing was a big brown blob in front of me,โ Field said. โI empowered myself. Iโve never been that strong. I whacked that bear as strong as I couldโฆ you would have thought I was a Louisville slugger.โ

Both animals then ran away, Parks and Wildlife said, ending the attack that began at about 8:45 pm in Pine, about 45 miles southwest of Denver. The mother was found and euthanized the following morning. The cub has not been found.
