A skier has died after falling from a chairlift at Breckenridge Ski Resort, CO, on Friday, March 17th, reports Summit Daily.

John Perucco, 60, from Illinois, was attempting to remove snow from his seat on the Zendo chair when he fell 25 feet onto a hard-packed, groomed trail.

Perucco reportedly wore a helmet, but the safety bar was not down.

“This is another tragic Spring Break accidental death. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the decedent.”

– Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons told Summit Daily

Perucco had just boarded the four-person chair on Peak 7 and had not yet reached tower 1 when the accident occurred.

The incident will be investigated before a public report is published. Resort officials declined to comment on whether a chairlift malfunction was involved.
