U.S. ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin and Norway’s Aleksander Aamodt Kilde tied the knot in a secret wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The 28-year-old American and 30-year-old Norwegian have been dating for two years and announced their plans to holiday in Mexico after the World Cup Finals on their Instagram Accounts.

While the secret wedding may not surprise their close friends, Mikaela’s announcement that she will be moving to Norway to be closer to Kilde will surprise many of her American fans. While the move may shock some, it makes sense for the American ski racer, as their busy training and competition schedules hardly ever line up. At least this way, the two can train together until the start of the World Cup season.

In an interview with Vogue, Norway, Lucas Braaten said, “I was a bit disappointed I wasn’t invited. After all, I am an ace DJ. I am very happy for Aleksander. Mikaela is an amazing person and an incredible skier, and with her on the Norwegian team, we will be unbeatable next season.”

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team will be losing their best athlete, which will be devastating. Her new coach, Karin Harjo, will follow her to Norway. Harjo is of Finnish descent, and the move for her is easy. Coach Harjo still has family in Helsinki and is reportedly excited to work with Shiffrin and Norwegian skiers Ragnhild Mowinckel and Thea Louise Stjernesund.
