Monarch Mountain, CO is hosting its annual, free-to-attend, all-day Telefestivus event Sunday, February 13th, 2022, an event that celebrates the skill and thrill of Telemark skiing.

Telemark equipment is a type of downhill skiing equipment where the skier’s boot heel is not attached to the ski. The sport and the equipment are named after Telemark, Norway, where skiing is said to have originated. It’s a combination of alpine and Nordic skiing.

The event will feature a variety of events and activities throughout the day, including telemark equipment demos, a social hike to Mirkwood Bowl, a giant slalom fun race on Freeway, instructional clinics, and lots of free-heelin’ fun, with an end of day Airing of Grievances with awards and give-a-ways.

The event is free, but participants must have a season pass or purchase a lift ticket and/or uphill pass to access the lifts and terrain. Monarch does not rent telemark equipment. Contact your local shops for rentals. Lift tickets are available online or at the Monarch Ticket Window. Uphill passes are available at the season pass desk.

“Telemarking is one of the oldest forms of downhill skiing. Everyone is invited to free their heel and take part in this fun event that celebrates the art and skill of telemark skiing.”

– Kathryn Wadsworth, Event Coordinator
