Mt. Baker: Greed is Good

Michael Etezadi |

As the famous line from the 1987 Oscar winning film Wall Street stated, “Greed, for a lack of a better word, is good” and when it comes to all the ski areas in North America, there is none greedier than the Mt. Baker located in the state of Washington. Yet unlike the real life Wall Street, Mt. Baker’s greed does not come in the form of money, but in the form of snowfall, and there is plenty of it. You won’t see any fancy hotels or restaurants here. This is a mom and pop ski area with no lodging within 30 minutes, but what you’ll get is a ski area that consistently records the highest average snowfall of any mountains during a season and even set the record for highest annual snowfall during the 1998-1999 season with 1,140 inches!

DPS athletes Zack Griffin, Piers Solomon and Olof Larsson were able bring us their 10-day adventure at Mt. Baker Ski Area in the newest episode of the DPS series Shadow Campaign: Whitewash. Powder shots were endless in the four and half-minute long segment, as the riders hit up Baker’s famous backcountry set to an amazing soundtrack that will have you hypnotized. By the end of the video, most people will say that DPS was lucky to get so much snow while they were there. A local will just shrug their shoulders and say, “That’s just an average day at Baker”. Sometimes greed is a good thing.
