“9 Sherpa using supplemental oxygen became the first to summit on the South Side of Everest in the past 3 years. Lots of friends in the fixing team, and they called us from the summit at 5pm, exhilarated. Congratulations!” – Adrian Ballinger, Alpenglow Expeditions
- In 2015, on April 25th a 7.8-magnitude caused an avalanche that killed 18 climbers and sherpa in Everest base camp. ย At least 22 people were killed – the worst disaster in Everest history.
- In 2014, on April 18th, a avalanche came down and killed 16 sherpa in the Khumbu Icefall – the worst disaster in Everest history up to that point.
Because of the two avalanche disasters above, no one climbed Everest in 2014 and 2015 from the South Side. ย
A big congrats to the super-human Sherpa who summited and fixed lines to the summit today!ย Such badasses.
