You might not be surprised to find out that the most damaging tsunami in the past 121 years was the 2011 tsunami in Tohoku, Japan. But what are the other most damaging tsunamis since 1900? NOAA scientists have compiled a list to find out just that.
Often, historical tsunami data may not always include all essential details, such as the size of tsunami waves, how far waves advance onshore, the number of buildings damaged, or lives lost. Due to these limitations, we know some events almost certainly may be missing from this list of most damaging tsunamis.
