We went on a two day trip to the รtztal hunting for some spring powder in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl. Last weekend it snowed roughly 20 cm, so Obergurgl with it’s high elevation up to 3100m was the perfect place to go. Generally it’s been a low snow year in the southern Alps this season but above 2600m there are still great dry pow stashes to be found. Obergurgl offers a huge amount of terrain and amazing lift infrastructure giving access to seven huge bowls that have AK like terrain.
We found some amazing lines you can reach with a short bootpack to the Festkogel peak. We were lucky and it was mostly sunny the past two days. There were some clouds pushing in from the south that dropped over some of the higher peaks. This offered up some amazing views and a mystical atmosphere.
We had some great runs into the Ferwalltal with dry powder in sick terrain. At the end of the Ferwalltal you immediately spot the Granatenkogel an epic face with a consistent 45 degree slope for about 500m vertical. The second day we were ready to go for it but clouds dropped in over the face and with bad visibility no chance. Definitely a face that I want to ride in the future.
