Team USA’s Nathan Chen, 22, won his first gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics after successfully landing five quadruple jumps on Thursday. His performance was the final one of the event.

From Salt Lake City, UT, Chen won the men’s singles figure skating event with his “Rocketman” routine. The three-time world champion scored 332.60 points, just three points off his world record.

“I never thought I would actually be able to make this happen. It’s hard. It’s always been a dream, of course. It’s a pretty daunting mountain.”

Yuma Kagiyama and Shoma Uno, of Japan, took the silver and bronze medals.

Chen is the first American figure skating champion at the Games since Evan Lysacek in 2010, reports the AP.
