The ropes have dropped and the lifts are spinning: Big Sky Resort, Montana, is officially open for its 50th and longest season in history.

After a herculean effort of snowmaking, grooming, and on-mountain preparation, the resort opened with two lifts, six runs, a beginner area, and a terrain park.

Thanks to recent cold temperatures, snowmakers delivered a high-quality, consistent, and enjoyable-to-ski-on snow surface. Those gliding down Mr. K today were able to catch a glimpse of the new Lone Peak Tram preparing for its debut on December 19.

Skiers and riders celebrated on the hill and off. The morning began with complimentary breakfast, coffee, and hot chocolate for early risers, followed by a live DJ and MAP Brewing tastings during après.

A storm forecasted for this evening is expected to bring a refresh to the mountain, and Mountain Operations teams will continue to assess terrain daily. Additional terrain and lift announcements can be found on Big Sky Resort’s trail status page.
