Thanks to lower temperatures and fresh natural snow, Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe in Nevada turned on its snow guns yesterday, becoming the first Lake Tahoe resort to begin snowmaking ahead of the 23/24 winter season. The resort also beat its Californian neighbors.
“With the cooler weather finally here, we’ve started making snow from the summit down to the base. Conditions will change over the weekend, but this opportunity will help to get our equipment dialed in early, and getting coverage on some key runs is crucial to having the best conditions possible on opening day. Last year, we started making snow on October 22nd, and we plan to take advantage of any chance we get to keep making more!”
– Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe
Last year Mt. Rose began snowmaking on October 22nd, 2022, and opened on November 11th. This year it is aiming for a November 9th opening day, the earliest of all the Nevada and California resorts.
Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe has the highest base elevation of a Tahoe-region ski area, at about 8,260 ft (2,520 m) and the summit is 9,700 ft (2,955 m).
