Powder King Mountain Resort, British Columbia, has reduced its asking price from C$8.25 million (US$6 million) to C$6.495 million (US$4.7 million.) This significant price drop comes after the resolution of a complex ownership dispute following the death of former part-owner James Christopher Salisbury in April 2022. The resort was first listed for sale in August 2023.

Salisbury’s passing left his wills unsigned, complicating the ownership structure of the resort, which he co-owned with his wife, Heidi Robyn Salisbury. In the months leading up to his death, Salisbury had been planning the resort’s future but was unable to finalize his estate documents due to declining health.

On November 6, 2023, the British Columbia Supreme Court validated both unsigned wills, effectively transferring full ownership to Salisbury’s widow, Heidi Robyn Salisbury. Previously, the Salisburys jointly owned the resort through a 50-50 split in a holding company. With the court’s decision, Heidi Salisbury now has complete control over the resort’s operations and sale proceedings.

The sale includes the ski resort, the adjacent Azouzetta Lake Resort, a general store, and a gravel pit in the District of Mackenzie.

Powder King Mountain Resort is a ski area located in the Northern Rockies of British Columbia’s Northeastern Interior. The resort boasts 925 acres (374 hectares) of skiable terrain and receives an impressive average annual snowfall of 492 inches (41 feet or 12.5 meters) ranking first in Canada and fourth in North America. It features 37 runs, with a mix of beginner (37%), intermediate (38%), and advanced (25%) trails. The resort is serviced by three lifts: a triple chairlift, a T-bar, and a rope tow. Powder King has a vertical drop of 2,100 feet (640 meters), with a base elevation of 3,000 feet (914 meters) and a summit elevation of 5,500 feet (1,676 meters.) The mountain is known for its abundant powder and uncrowded slopes, making it a hidden gem for powder enthusiasts.
