Powder Mountain Ski Resort officially announced it will no longer be capping season pass sales starting in the 2024/2025 season. This is a big development for Powder Mountain, as it has never done this before in its 50-plus years of business. Not to mention, the resort has never sold more than 3,000 season passes or 1,500-day passes in a given season. The primary reason Powder Mountain capped season pass sales was to preserve its fresh snow and keep the resort uncrowded, so this is big news for Utah.

Powder Mountain also revealed the price of its 2024/2025 adult season pass, which is $1,399 for current season pass holders, if purchased between February 28 and March 4, 2024. Prices will go up to $1,499 on March 5 for everyone and will increase thereafter based on the demand and sales of season passes.

Powder Mountain has increased its advertisements around the Salt Lake City area since Reed Hastings invested $100 million in the resort last year. Hastings, a billionaire and co-founder of Netflix, became the majority shareholder of Powder Mountain in September 2023 with this investment. As a result, billboards are popping up all around Salt Lake City promoting the resort. This is another new development for Powder Mountain as they have been known to shy away from large crowds.

Hastings firmly believes the semi-private model, addition of new lifts, and dynamic day ticket pricing starting next season will keep Powder Mountain uncrowded and a sustainable, independent resort. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the removal of the season pass cap will affect the largest resort in the United States by skiable acreage next season.
