On April 2, legendary pro skier and Teton Gravity Films star Tim Durtschi dislocated his knee while filming with Teton Gravity Research in the Jackson Hole Sidecountry. He shared in an Instagram post that the injury was extremely painful and required a helicopter rescue from Teton County Search and Rescue.

Durtschi provided a quote from TCSAR about the rescue in which they wrote:

“The team then placed the skier in a screamer suit-a full-body harness that gets clipped into the long line-and flew him and the SAR volunteers to the landing zone at the base of Teton Village, where they met an ambulance with Jackson Hole Fire/EMS. Thanks to the JHMR Ski Patrol and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS for the partnership in helping to get this skier out of the backcountry and to higher medical care.”

Durschi further expanded on the injury and accompanying rescue in the post, writing:

“I can’t thank my film crew enough for dealing with the situation in a serious manner. Thanks to @maggie_voisin@haydlynch and @kainen.krueger they acted quick and called search and rescue instantly. Every minute counted and my team made sure I was comfortable and warm as we waited for the helicopter. My knee was dislocated for a total of three hours from accident to operating table. I had no idea what the outcome would be but the doctors did an excellent job relocating my knee at @stjohnshealth luckily my veins and nerves were not damaged during the crash. It is a miracle that they were not damaged with my ski binding failing to release 🙏.”

And went on to write:

“After talking to multiple doctors and assessing the situation of my knee got my first surgery at @stchealth in Bend, Oregon. A dislocated knee is a very serious injury and it’s going to take multiple surgeries to fix the damage and get me a stable knee again. I am optimistic and excited to work with the physical therapy team in Oregon @therapeuticassociatesbendpt to get me back skiing again. I will be busy this summer managing my autoimmune condition whilst recovering from this injury. Skiing seems so far away at this moment but that is the goal. I had an unbelievably fun season and am thankful for all the experiences and film trips I was able to go on working on the new TGR film! Thank you to all my friends and family for the support through all of this @tgrtoddjones@kaijonesski@tucker__carr@orange_delay @hottrash69@ericadurtschi you’ve helped me have the strength to push through 👊”

Due to the heroic efforts from TSCAR, his team, and the doctors who did surgery on his knee, Durschi is expected to make a full recovery and get back to professional skiing once he is able.

Get well soon, Tim.
