A pug in North Carolina has tested positive for coronavirus, the first reported canine case in the United States. His owner, Heather McLean, from Chapel Hill, admits he used to lick her plates and share her bed.

Winston was tested when his concerned owner found him sneezing and coughing, and after he lost his appetite.

Winston has since made a full recovery after just a few days of showing symptoms.

Last week, two cats in New York were confirmed to have contracted the virus that causes COVID-19. And last month, a pet dog in Hong Kong, the first known to have contracted the virus, died.

The USA has had 1,012,583 confirmed human coronavirus cases and 58,355 deaths.
