On your marks, set, SNOW! The annual ‘Race to Open’ has begun, with neighboring Colorado resorts Loveland and Arapahoe Basin battling as usual to be the first resort to open ski season in North America.
The long-range forecast is for temperatures to drop with moisture potentially in the air, perfect conditions for snowmaking. In fact, Loveland bragged yesterday they would be firing up their guns in a weeks time (no such bragging from A-Basinat the time of writing this!)
A-Basin won the race last year, loading the first chair on October 13th, and slightly edge out Loveland over the last 15-years and recent years, but it’s sure to be a tight run contest.ย Could Loveland take back the crown this year for the first time since 2010? Place your bets…
One thing’s for sure, it won’t just be Colorado skiers and riders keeping an eye on the situation, as soon as one of them opens winter has arrived!
