Life returned to normal yesterday at Squaw, as The Mothership (KT-22) fired up for the first time of the season. Once things softened up, the skiing was all around ripping. East Face, GS Bowl, even Rock Garden and the Snag Cliffs were all harboring some sweet turns once the sun got on them and softened things up (first thing in the morning it was more than bullet proof due to a good bit of rain the previous afternoon). Spirits were high, the snow was good, and the opening day of KT-22 was a great success!

KT didnโt open until around 10:30 due to some very firm conditions, however there were still the familiar faces lined up early, with KT Cheryl there ready for first chair. By the time KT did open, the line had grown outside the ticket gate but was still relatively mellow for her first opening of the season.

The top 3/4 of KT is certainly skiing better than the lower 1/4, where there are bushes and rocks poking through left and right to keep ya on your toes. You need to be mindful on the upper snow too, as places receiving direct sunlight can be quite punchy mid day. None the less, the spring like snow was most fun and playful. If it canโt be pow it might as well be spring corn!
And things are looking to get a little more wintery in the near future. This afternoon/tonight a small system is scheduled to move in which may produce around 5โณ at the base with more up top, followed by another colder system for Tuesday/Wednesday.
