U.S. ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin and her partner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, the Norwegian speed specialist, swapped ski gear for black tie attire as they attended the Time Magazine gala that honored the 100 most influential figures of 2023.
More than 300 guests attended the gala at New Yorkโs Lincoln Center at which the the seven-times World Champion and most successful skier of all time with currently 88 World Cup victories was named among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people this year.
Shiffrinโs nomination to the Time 100 list will hopefully promote snowsports across the United States, which trails behind European powerhouses, like Switzerland or Austria, in terms of both fans and participation.ย “Probably one of the hardest things to do in the U.S., specifically, is to actually tap into all the talent that exists,” Shiffrin said in an interview,ย “You actually need to put development systems in place and you need to cover the span of the entire country everywhere where snow would be a possibility for anybody. And it’s a lot of ground to cover.”
