On March 14th, 2020 Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued an executive order shutting down all Colorado ski resorts indefinitely due to Coronavirus.

Silverton ski area in Colorado issued a statement on March 15th, 2020 declaring that they are looking into options for how they might reopen their ski resort despite the executive order.

“*update* We are currently reviewing the law and the government order to see what our options are. Our hearts go out to anyone with the illness. Unguided skiing is not a money maker for us so this is not about profit, this is about keeping people who rely on us for their survival employed. There is a disconnect by the Governor who may not realize the difference between Vail Resorts (15,000 people a day) and small independent ski areas. There are thousands of open restaurants in the state that see more people per day than we do skiing at Silverton Mountain. Obviously we are overloaded with calls/emails and we will get back to you all as quickly as possible.”
