As the winter season begins to wrap up in the Northern Hemisphere, those in the south, such as Ski Portillo in Chile, are starting to get excited about the upcoming season that is set to begin in mid to late June, which is just around the corner. The resort just announced the expected opening day on Instagram on Wednesday, April 10. The resort announced that “this upcoming season will be June 22–September 28, conditions permitting.” Last season, Ski Portillo got a historic amount of snowfall, making it one of the snowiest winters on record. Ski Portillo put this statement on their Instagram:

As the season in the Northern Hemisphere winds down, we are getting excited for our season to begin and lifts to start spinning. Fingers crossed for another good one; who’s coming? ☝️

Ski Portillo not only offers access to 1,235 acres of skiable in-bounds terrain but is also known for its easily accessible backcountry skiing. The resort gets an average of 59 inches, which is much lower than what the typical resort has here in the Northern Hemisphere; however, it has a base elevation of 9,450 feet, which helps preserve the base throughout the season. Being the highest and offering the most diverse terrain makes Ski Portillo the go-to destination for those looking to extend their ski season well into the Southern Hemisphere’s colder months.
