A potent midweek storm will deliver healthy snowfall totals across much of Utah’s higher terrain, with snow levels gradually lowering and bringing fresh powder for many resorts before the weekend. Most of the action arrives Wednesday afternoon into Friday, with moderate to occasionally high snow ratios expected. A brief lull may follow, but extended guidance suggests continued below-normal temperatures and elevated chances for additional snowfall into next week.
An active pattern sets up Wednesday afternoon and evening as a new round of snow pushes in from the west. Initially, snow levels will hover around 5,000–5,500 feet in northern Utah and 6,000–6,500 feet in southern Utah. Wind gusts from the southwest around 30 knots may affect the higher peaks, especially in southern Utah, potentially impacting upper-elevation chairlifts. By late Wednesday night, moderate accumulations should be underway in the northern Wasatch, while central and southern mountains also pick up fresh snow under increasingly dynamic conditions.
Thursday brings continued snowfall, enhanced for favored mountain areas due to orographic lift. Snow levels are forecast to drop to around 4,000–4,500 feet, allowing lower valleys to see some flakes. Across the Cottonwoods, moisture and terrain effects may support heavier bursts of snow, potentially adding to the day’s totals. Southwest winds could tick up to 30–40 knots in southern Utah; with decent snow ratios around 10–15:1 in most spots, conditions should be fairly soft on the slopes, although breezier areas might see some wind-affected surfaces.
Light to moderate snow may linger into Friday morning before tapering off, with another wave possible by early next week. Those final Friday accumulations will be modest but still worthwhile for fresh turns, and some northern resorts might squeeze out an extra inch or two from lingering upslope flow. Looking into the extended period, cooler temperatures and a continued trough pattern are favored to remain in place, suggesting further snowy opportunities into mid-March. Overall, expect an active stretch of weather with below-normal temperatures, reinforcing snow quality at higher elevations.
