Snowmakers have worked tirelessly and at every opportunity for the last few weeks to ensure the opening day went ahead. Conditions were 100% manmade, but that didn’t stop riders starting to line-up at 6:30 am to claim the honor of the first chair.
Kangaroo chair at Alpine Meadows opened, and the SnowVentures area at Squaw Valley, which included a chairlift and two surface lifts (magic carpets) for skiing and one lane of lift-accessed snowtubing, also opened.
Many guests were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the snow and skiing experience, and with temperatures forecast to drop next week, the resort is hoping to have the opportunity to increase snowmaking and expand terrain as conditions allow.
The first 50 people in line received YETI mugs and this seasonโs Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows signature beanie. Buffs, Clif bars, and coffee were also available for early risers. The resort opened from 9 am – 4 pm, and is now open for daily operations, conditions permitting.
