The steepest groomed trail in Europe just opened for the first time at Austria’s Kaunertal Glacier last weekend. The new run has a pitch of a little over 41ยฐ (an 88% incline) which resort operators claim is steeper than the steepest part of the infamous Streif slope used in the annual Hahnenkamm downhill races in Kitzbuhel, Snowhunter reports.

They call it the “Black Ibex Piste,” and it is not for the faint of heart. This run is steeper than steep, freezing the blood of unsuspecting skiers who accidentally find themselves looking down onto it from above. It’s miraculous a cat can even get up there and groom it. Only in Europe!

Other classic and terrifyingly steep slopes in Austria include ‘the Black Mamba’ at the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which has a 63% incline, and ‘Diabolo’ at the Golm ski area in Montafon, which has a 70% slope, inthesnow.com reports.ย
