Squaw Valley to host FWQ 2 star event 2014

It has been over two years since Squaw has hosted a legitimate big mountain competition, but 2014 is set to break that trend bringing the Subaru Freeride Series (a FWQ 2 and 4 star event) to Squaw Valley February 19th-23rd.  Registration for the Subaru Freeride Series opens on November 23rd @ 11AM MST, so if you plan to register, be sure and be at your computer ready to hit register at 10:59 (these events have been known to fill up within 5 minutes of going live).

Schedule of the FWQ Squaw comp:

February 19
– 2-star FWQ Registration/Inspection

February 20
– 2-star FWQ Competition Day
– 4-star FWQ Registration/Inspection

February 21
– JFT Registration
– 4-star FWQ Competition Day

February 22
– JFT Competition Day
– 4-star FWQ Finals

February 23
– JFT Competition Day
– 4-star FWQ Weather Day

It’s great to see Squaw back on the list.  As the breeding ground for the greatest skiers on earth, and hosting some of the sickest terrain in the lower 48, it simply makes sense to have the worlds best prove themselves on Squaw’s legendary terrain.

The venue has not yet been announced, but it is doubtful that skiers will get a chance at the Tram Face…but who knows.  At this point the likely candidates for the venue are Enchanted Forest off of KT, Light Towers to CII Bowl off Headwall, or perhaps the China Wall area off of Silverado.  Regardless of the selected venue, it should be a show you won’t want to miss! (and hopefully ski in!!)

  1. This is great. There is NO REASON Squaw should have ever been left off this list. Great to have this type of event back at Squaw!!!

  2. I really don’t think that the venue will be at squaw.. Alpine has better competition venues as far as that goes. I’m putting my money on the Buttress. but lets see
