Sugar Mountain surprised everyone today by opening for skiing and riding. A lot of people don’t even realize that there is skiing in North Carolina at all, so it may seem almost impossible for them to have opened before anyone in the Northeast. This isn’t completely out of the ordinary though, as North Carolina also beat out the rest of the East in 2019. Regardless, Sugar fired up its snowguns and was open in less than 48 hours after temperatures dropped below freezing, which is mindblowing.

Sugar is open today with 6 trails, 2 lifts, and over 1,100 vertical feet of skiing and riding. Other resorts across the East Coast should be opening in the following days as temperatures finally have dropped below freezing. With some snow potentially inbound later in the week, this is looking like potentially a great start to the season.
