It’s crazy how much snow Sunshine Village in Alberta, Canada has been getting this fall.  

Nearly everyday this month, they’ve posted a photo of the place looking mid-winter white and they’re currently claiming a 27″ base.

Late yesterday, Sunshine announced that they’ll be opening for the season tomorrow!  This will be their earliest opening in 30 years.

Sunshine will have a lot more open than any other currently open ski resort in North America by a lot.  The other two ski resorts currently open (Arapahoe Basin, CO & Killington, VT) only have 1 or 2 runs open via 1 chairlift each.

WHAT WILL BE OPEN at SUNSHINE:

• 4 Chairlifts:  Wawa, Strawberry, Jackrabbit, Wolverine
• 1 Gondola
• 1 Magic Carpet

Sunshine village will be the 3rd ski resort to open in North America this season and the first ski resort to open in Canada.

Arapahoe Basin, CO opened on October 21st, 2016 and Killington, VT opened on October 25th, 2016.

SUNSHINE VILLAGE FIRST CANADIAN SKI RESORT TO OPEN 

Banff, Alberta, Canada– Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort will be the first resort in Canada to open its doors to ski and snowboard enthusiasts on Thursday, November 3, 2016. This is Sunshine’s earliest opening in over 30 years.

The resort will open with four Chairlifts including Wawa, Strawberry, Jackrabbit and Wolverine, one magic carpet and one 8-passenger gondola. With a current base of over 69 cm (27 in) of all-natural snow, Sunshine Village is poised for a solid start to the 2016-2017 season.

“A large amount of precipitation starting in early October means the champagne powder snow has piled up fast,” says Dave Riley, Chief Operating Officer at Sunshine Village, “the Sunshine Village team has been working incredibly hard and we are thrilled to be the first resort in Canada to open its doors to our guests.”

The resort will offer full ski school programs as well as Tiny Tiger and Kids Kampus programs starting Thursday, in addition to opening select on-mountain dining and retail venues.
