Teenage Skier in Group of 18 on School Field Trip Dies in Avalanche in France Fifteen students, their teacher, an aspiring guide, and a guide were skiing on a school field trip in the Vercors area of France when they triggered an avalanche that carried 3 of them away off the Roc Cornafion (2,049m or 2,722ft) above the town of Villard-de-Lans at about 12:30pm today. “American Dave” Rosenbarger Dies in Avalanche in Chamonix This sucks. Dave was a great guy and fantastic skier that skied for himself, not for the limelight. He’d spent the past 12 winters in Chamonix and the past 12 summers in Lake Tahoe, CA. Dave had skied nearly all the gnarliest lines in Chamonix and many more around the world. 4th Avalanche Death in the USA at Silverton, Colorado A 23-year-old woman was killed in an avalanche after being swept through trees on Kendall Mountain south of Silverton, Colorado yesterday, January 6th, 2014. She was skiing at around 11,000-feet, one at a time, when she was caught in a small avalanche and carried into a group of trees.
