6 Things a Backcountry Skier Doesn’t Want to Hear About Backcountry (BC) skiers think they are better than all liftserve (LS) skiers. They ski fresh powder every run, they never wait in line, and they ski the raddest lines in the mountain range. So sometimes BC skiers get sick of hearing LS skiers talk about inbounds skiing. So if you are an LS skier, here is a list of topics to avoid when […] Guy LaDouche | June 2, 2015 9 Comments
Candide Thovex’s “Few Words” Movie is FREE Online Candide Thovex’s ground breaking ski movie “Few Words” is now free online for anyone to watch. “Few Words” is one of the best ski movies we’ve seen. Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina Conditions Report: Jagged Peaks and Frothing Ocean This is my first ever trip to the far south of South America. I’ve been blown away. I’ve been in Ushuaia, Argentina in Tierra del Fuego for a week now and the scenery is intense. The winds can be even more intense. We’ve witnessed the Beagle Channel as smooth as glass as well as frothing like rapid dog. This place is truly a land where the phrase – if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes – truly applies. We’ve been skiing all week here in the Martial Glacier zone just outside of town. The Martial Glacier has big rolly polly terrain, chutes, steeps, cliffs, jagged peaks, and […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | November 4, 2014 3 Comments
Alaska Backcountry Conditions Report: Game ON in Girdwood On October 19th-20th, Girdwood received its first storm of the season where a significant amount snow accumulated and has stuck around at sea level. The storm dropped about 10 inches of wet heavy snow in town. Normally 10 inches wouldn’t be enough for anybody to actually ski unless you wanted to blow out your edge or a knee, but when you have a plethora of glaciers in the nearby valleys, it makes skiing very possible. Crow Pass is home to one of those glaciers, Jewel Glacier, nestled around 4,500 feet above Girdwood Valley. This glacier is fairly unique due to its easy access, meaning it does not require the normal tools that you would […] Conditions Report Scott Rich | October 22, 2014 4 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Backcountry Report: “Alaskita” Powder on the LAST Day of the Season Yesterday was Catedral ski resort’s last day of the 2014 winter season. They will keep the Amancay gondola and Diente de Caballo chair open, but they will only allow beginners and sightseers to load. On Monday it snowed hard and added up here. The wind blew like crazy and closed the mountain at 1pm. We knew things in the backcountry were going to be smooth and fresh, but the heat was a concern. Our plan was to hit Zebra Chute, a northeast facing couloir in the nearby […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | October 1, 2014 1 Comment
VIDEO: Heli Skiing From a Chairlift @ Las Lenas, Argentina… This is a video of skiing on the big epic pow day of September 4th, 2014. It shows some of the lines where I have been trying to improve my skiing by chilling with the Catalans, mostly adri Millan. But also Txema trull, Alejo Sanchez, and Mike Hamilton were there on this amazing day. It shows a bunch of runs on cerro fosiles, accessed by a chairlift. And this video should help give you some insight into why I love it here in Argentina so much, because things like this are fun. Thanks to all the friends […] Guest Author | September 19, 2014 0 Comments

VIDEO: Backcountry Backflips in Big Patagonia Terrain I think it’s safe to say we just had the best week of the season here at Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina. On Monday, September 7th, the storm came in strong enough to close the mountain entirely. It was cold and windy storm that snowed to the bottom of the mountain. Spots in La Laguna had over 5 feet of snow laying around. I’d say that in general, the upper mountain got about 2 feet of quality snow. Tuesday was good in bounds.
