Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Powder Tornado Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina got 12-20″ of snow last night. We woke up to snow all over in town. It doesn’t snow in town very often. A couple times per year, tops. We knew it was going to be a great day on the hill. The upper mountain was covered in 12-20″ of absolute blower snow. The freezing level was somewhere around sea level last night creating uber dry faceshot producing snow all over the mountain. Nubes was closed all day due to wind which left the entirely of Nubes to the hiking crowd. On our first run, one of our crew triggered a small avalanche that took him for a ride. Be smart out there. Around 6-feet of snow has fallen in the past week on the upper elevations of Catedral. Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Violently Bluebird Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina experienced an impeccable day today. No wind, warm temps, good snow, great times. Southern aspects are still holding chalky, powdery snow. North faces have fun sun cooked pow. In bounds skied great today in the sun. Nubes was skiing well, Del Bosque even had some huckable cliffs in the soft afternoon snow. Our crew climbed up to the spires in La Laguna and dropped off the back – “Tower Chute” – for a long run into the Van Titter valley. The snow was powdery, chalky, and damn fast. The views from the mountain were […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | August 20, 2015 0 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Today was the Day Today, was a spectacular day at Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina. It was our second splendiferous day in a week since last Monday was brilliant. The day started with 4-10″ of new snow on top of a crunchy/hard layer and dense fog up top. We feared the day would be a wash with great snow and no visibility. After hiking Nubes three times and getting some terrible visibility and some OK visibility, the sun finally popped and the Nubes chair opened up. We ripped two high speed laps on the Nubes chair that were absolutely amazing. Full speed, slashing turns, laughing, hitting […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 10, 2015 1 Comment
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Mini Powder Day Strength Training Today was the kind of day I’ve been waiting for. A day where the top chair, Nubes (2,000-vertical-feet), the best chair on the mountain, was open, running fast, and had a few inches of new snow. These are the days that make you better – that make you strong. We had about 2 inches of new, dense snow on top of a firm layer that kept you on your […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 7, 2015 3 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: World Class Tree Skiing The world’s best tree skiing? Maybe. Certainly the best tree skiing I’ve ever experienced anywhere… Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina received 3+ feet of snow on the upper mountain over the weekend. Today was sunny and bright and was likely than any single day we had here last season. There was snow to the bottom of the mountain (which we never had last season) today which meant you could ski the incredible old growth Lenga tree forests on the lower mountain. These trees are large, very widely spaced Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 3, 2015 6 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: 3-Feet of Fresh Snow & Literally No One Out Catedral ski resort is reporting 50cms (20″) in the past two days. We climbed up today and measured over 3-feet of new snow in spots. The snow came with big wind that was strong enough to shut the ski resort for most of the day today. This afternoon, they were able to get the lower mountain open but the mid and upper mountains remained closed. Yes, we as skiers and riders overuse the term “no one out”. But today, we really mean it. Since the mountain was shutdown, I hiked up to […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 2, 2015 2 Comments
Bariloche, Arg. Conditions Report: Powder Day w/ 40″ on the Way Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina has been getting hammered by snow since last weekend. Coverage up high is damn good and things are pretty thin down low. Today was the first day with good visibility all week and it did not disappoint. Catedral is reporting about a foot of snow in the past two days on the upper mountain. Last night’s cold sucked some of the moisture out of the old snow and a few new inches of snow had fallen since closing yesterday making […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | July 29, 2015 0 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Backcountry Report: “Secret Chute” It will not stop snowing in Bariloche, Argentina. Today the storm came in with so much wind it shut down nearly the entire mountain at about 1pm. The wind up high was blowing a constant 40mph, which made walking on the ridge lines a very interesting endeavor. Catedral ski resort impressively got the highest chair, Nubes open by about 11am after the whole mountain opened late at about 10am due to the strong winds. Nubes had amazingly smooth, wind-buffed snow, about 4-6 inches deep, […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 29, 2014 0 Comments
Dumping Snow in Patagonia Today | Photo Tour: It snowed like crazy today at Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina for the third time since Tuesday. Snowing inches per hour for the third time since Tuesday. I couldn’t help but laugh and smile today as I rode the Nubes chair. It was a Saturday on the last weekend of the season, it was nuking snow, it was a powder day, and no one was out. The last Saturday of year is generally reserved for slushy skiing, sunburns, talking to girls, and seeing if you can have one drink at each refugio on the mountain (good luck, there’s 12…). This season, spring was completely hijacked by heavy snows. […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 27, 2014 0 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Bluebird Powder Day First of all, I wanna give big props for Catedral ski resort opening the Nubes chair today. It’s been closed for about a week (essentially for the season) due to the trails accessing it having completely burned out. There was simply no snow left on the trails accessing the base of the Nubes chair. The recent storm dropped enough snow for the trails to be covered and groomed once more. Catedral was great and opened Nubes right away this morning by 10am. Thanks. Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina just experienced two days of big, late season snowfall. The storm completely closed the mountain down on Tuesday, we had a great […] Miles Clark | September 25, 2014 0 Comments

Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: “Spring Has Sprung” It’s crazy to think spring is already here in Argentina. The trees are flowering, birds are chirping everywhere, and green leaves are unfurling. We had a big snowstorm last week that delivered 8 days of great powder skiing. The backcountry has been incredible. Temperatures have been getting warmer each day this week with today being toasty. We’ve had just enough freeze-thaw cycles now to develop some good corn. Today, you could rip hard on any part of the mountain. There was no one at the hill and the Mothership, Nubes chair, once again proved its meddle. Cranking laps on Nubes all day is enough to make anyone exhausted. Nubes did […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 17, 2014 0 Comments
VIDEO: Backcountry Backflips in Big Patagonia Terrain I think it’s safe to say we just had the best week of the season here at Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina. On Monday, September 7th, the storm came in strong enough to close the mountain entirely. It was cold and windy storm that snowed to the bottom of the mountain. Spots in La Laguna had over 5 feet of snow laying around. I’d say that in general, the upper mountain got about 2 feet of quality snow. Tuesday was good in bounds. Bariloche, Argentina Backcountry Report: “Overexposed in Alaskita” Today was the first sunny day since Bariloche, Argentina’s 2-foot Monday storm. The storm was cold storm and things remained cold until today. I used the sunny weather to get out to my favorite backcountry zone in the area, Alaskita. I arrived on top of Alaskita at noon, exactly when things were heating up. I could feel it in the air and a bit in the snow. I could see the avalanche debris from a small avalache (likely caused by a small cornice collapse) near the bottom of the upper spines. It looked fresh. I felt that the upper spines of Alaskita […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 12, 2014 8 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Backcountry Bliss Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina just got a 2-foot storm. Yesterday, the snow was light and fluffy in La Laguna and just about everywhere on the mountain. As always happens in the Andes, the wind blew last night and pressed the snow pretty good in most spots. Upper and Lower La Laguna held up to the wind well and stayed relatively light and fluffy. The Playground got wind pressed and the afternoon sun that came out yesterday cooked it pretty good. The snow was punchy and catchy in the Playground today. Lower Laguna was stellar […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 10, 2014 1 Comment

A big storm rolled in late Sunday night with big snow, big wind, and big cold. Snow levels dropped into town and the wind was ripping. Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Mini-Powder-Days Galore Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina has been getting small, daily storms for the past week. Just a few inches per day or so, but it’s been enough to give each day a mini refresh. The real key to having fun at a ski resort is being able to ski off-piste terrain hard. If you can charge and make speed check turns anywhere you like, you’re gonna have a blast. Today was that way. Yesterday was that way. The day before yesterday was like that. It’s been a fun week. Today, we saw the biggest snowfall […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 3, 2014 4 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Mini Powder Day Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina got about 3-4 inches of snow last night. It wasn’t quite enough to bury the hard layer underneath, but it did make things fun. You could ski the whole mountain again and the shatter underneath quieted down every run as the sun softened things up throughout the day. The Nubes chair was the call today in the bright sunshine. We’ve had about a week of funky weather, so it was great to just have a pure […] SnowBrains | August 25, 2014 1 Comment
