Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Mini Powder Day Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina got about 3-4 inches of snow last night. It wasn’t quite enough to bury the hard layer underneath, but it did make things fun. You could ski the whole mountain again and the shatter underneath quieted down every run as the sun softened things up throughout the day. The Nubes chair was the call today in the bright sunshine. We’ve had about a week of funky weather, so it was great to just have a pure […] SnowBrains | August 25, 2014 1 Comment
VIDEO: Bariloche, Argentina August Highlight Reel by SGT This video was made by our friends at Sass Global Travel (SGT). We has nothing but powder here in Bariloche, Argentina during the first two weeks of August. SGT captured it well. The Southern Hemisphere provided the necessary winter weather for the first two sold-out sessions of the season. With less than desirable winter conditions elsewhere throughout the Andes, SASS figured out how to utilize the amazing alpine terrain at Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, Argentina. The skier crew started their summer shred with SASSโs standard avalanche awareness program and […] SnowBrains | August 21, 2014 3 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: Big Mountain Park Skiing Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina has a chairlift called Nubes. It’s a high speed quad that rises 2,000-feet to the top of the mountain. It accesses steep, jagged terrain, cliff hucks, cruisy groomers, wide open bowls, natural halfpipes, and the terrain park. Nubes would be a solid chair anywhere. Nubes is the key to days like today. Like Tahoe, Bariloche experiences mid-winter springtimes. If you embrace them, they’re […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 21, 2014 0 Comments
Refugio Frey, Patagonia Backcountry Hut Report: Wind, Powder, & Pizza We set off from the base of Catedral on a adventure of epic proportions. It was Ashley, our guide Lucas Jacobson who is a Bariloche local, and Alex Lemieux a guide from Utah who also joined for the quick trip to the hut. First challenge on Tuesday was the high winds and closed lifts on the mountain. We could have taken the summer trail but it would m have been half the fun. We set off and skinned from the base to the top ridge near the Nubes Chair. Once at the ridge we were faced with 60+ mile per hour winds and an icy traverse across a sketch patch. Falling was not an option. […] Conditions Report Guest Author | August 17, 2014 2 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Backcountry Report: Wind-Swept Beauty Bariloche had a big, sunny wind storm yesterday. It close the ski resort down for most the day. It buffed things out a bit and definitely pressed the snow down. I didn’t see any snow today that wasn’t wind affected in some way. I headed back out to Alaskita today. On the ski out there, I ran into the SGT crew. SGT is a ski/snowboard camp here in Bariloche that guides skiers and riders both inbounds and out. Today, they did a sweet tour. Alasita Run = Short Spines, Big Convex Face, to Fingers & Chutes. I made it to the top of Alaskita in about an hour after an uneventful ski and skin. The views today were precisoa. Temperatures were on the warm […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 13, 2014 2 Comments

It likely rained to the top yesterday. As the storm was ending, it got cold and dropped some good snow. This morning was bluebird. I ran straight up Nubes and found ok snow. It was very wind pressed and punchy and I nailed a rock on my first lap. As I was coming down Nubes they opened the chair. I stayed and got in 3 more runs before deciding to check out La Laguna. When I got to Laguna I realized that […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | August 10, 2014 2 Comments
